Last Sunday after Epiphany
Greetings, friends, as we come to the end of the Epiphany Season, prepare ourselves for Lent and look forward to the Glory of Easter, and our Risen Lord.
On Tuesday, Mardi Gras, Shrove Tuesday or Fat Tuesday marks the last day before Lent starts and we shall be having our traditional Pancake and Sausage Supper. Do come along if you can to support our Ways and Means Committee who have worked so hard this year to provide things for the Church.
Please drop by and have a look at the newly decorated Sunday School rooms after church today and see the work that John Aikenhead and Ron Banks (in the main) have done to paint and put new flooring down. Many thanks are due to them and others who have given so willingly of their time and talents and helped in any way. Thanks too, of course,to the leadership of Denise Jackson in this project.
May I commend to you the link here to a sermon preached by Bishop Sue 2 weeks ago in Westminster Abbey in London, England, to a congregation of 1200. It is a great sermon – if you have access to the internet type the address into your browser and listen to it. You will find it well worth it, I think. http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~tmoxley/sermon.mp3
We welcome Rev Marian back next week, and hope that she has had a restful break, and is returning bright eyed and bushy tailed to lead in the glorious path the Easter
In the meantime, blessings on you all. Rev David+
Scripture Readings: Last Sunday after Epiphany
2 KINGS 2:1-12 PSALM 50:1-6
2 CORINTHIANS 4:3-6 MARK 9:2-9
Psalm Refrain: God reveals himself in glory.
The Lord, the God of gods, has spoken; he has called the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. Out of Zion, perfect in its beauty, God reveals himself in glory.
Our God will come and will not keep silence; before him there is a consuming flame, and round about him a raging storm. He calls the heavens and the earth from above to witness the judgement of his people.
"Gather before me my loyal followers, those who have made a covenant with me and sealed it with sacrifice." Let the heavens declare the rightness of his cause; for God himself is judge.
